Beth Ann Mumford From Americans For Prosperity: 'Wolf's New Budget Proposal Includes A Whole Lot Of Tax Increases'

By Chris Stigall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chris Stigall spoke with Beth Anne Mumford from Americans for Prosperity on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about the group's opposition to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf's budget proposal.

Mumford said the Wolf's program will have serious ramifications for Pennsylvania residents.

"We want folks to understand that Governor Wolf's new budget proposal includes a whole lot of tax increases that are going to take dollars out of people's pockets and send them to Harrisburg."

She pointed to a number of new products and services that will now be subjected to the sales tax.

"Over the counter drugs, which had not been taxed in the past, textbooks, daycare, diapers, funerals, caskets, a whole number of business-to-business activities as well. So if you hire consultants or do things like that, those are also going to be taxed now. It's certainly expands the items that taxpayers are going to have to pay that sales tax on."

Additionally, Mumford asserted that the tax increases Wolf is calling for will cause additional harm to consumers.

"Twenty percent increase in the personal income tax, so it's going to cost you more to go to work because the state wants to take more of your money, the increased sales tax, that's a 10 percent increase in the sales tax, and then a new severance tax on top of the taxes that the natural gas industry already pays which means that we're going to see less opportunity and job growth in that industry. Over time, our own energy and electric costs are going to go up."
