Main Line Smiles To North Philly Frowns As Nova, Temple Fans Learn Their Team's Fates

By Ed Benkin, Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Villanova will head into the NCAA Tournament as a #1 seed, and their fans couldn't be happier. Meantime, it was close but no cigar for Temple, news students on campus didn't take well.

There was plenty of excitement on the Main Line as fans gathered at the Connelly Center to watch the Wildcats get a #1 seed.

Class of '94 grad Michael says the excitement is contagious:

"A night like this, it doesn't happen every year and it makes it even more special."

Now that Nova has a top seed, '93 grad Bridget expects a long run in the tournament:

"I'm very excited. This is something we've been waiting for and been very eager to see and Jay Wright deserves it."

While it was all smiles on the Main Line, many who gathered at a campus bar at Temple to see if their team could make a run at a National Championship left disappointed, and shared their displeasure with KYW Newsradio:

"I personally think we got snubbed and it's unfortunate."

"I think they should have made it, but what else can you do? There's nothing else you can do."

"I definitely thought they should of. It was a good season...a solid season. They all played well and in the end, they deserved to be in it."

The Owl's record of 23-10 was not enough to punch a ticket to the big dance, but there was still optimism in the air:

"Hope they do better in the NIT I think they'll win it all."

"I think Temple can make a deep run in the NIT."

Many fans added they're proud of their Owls who flew high for most of the season.
