Developer Hires World-Renowned Interior Designer At His 47-Story Luxury Hotel Condo In Philadelphia

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The developer of a new $200-million upscale hotel and high-rise condo at Broad and Spruce Streets is now bringing in a world-recognized designer to figure out what the interior will look like.

Developer Carl Dranoff is commissioning the internationally acclaimed French creator, designer, and architect Philippe Starck as the exclusive interior designer for the 47-story SLS LUX Philadelphia.

"There is no doubt that we have indeed raised the bar."

Starck is delighted to know that it's going up at the former headquarters of Philadelphia International Records, because he cannot design without music in his life.

"When I listen to bad music, I make a bad project - never - but when I listen to good music, I make good project - always!"

Starck promises to feed off the "energy" Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff created in producing 175 gold and platinum records, defined by the "Sound of Philadelphia."

"I don't know how we shall do it, because the challenge is a very high level, but we shall do it - definitely."

The luxury hybrid will combine 152 boutique hotel rooms with 90 condos, which will begin more than 200-feet high, at floor 20 and extend to the 47th floor.
