Dom Giordano: 'I'm Not Always Going To Agree With Listeners, But I'm Always Willing To Engage And Listen'

By Dom Giordano

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This week's column underlines why there is no medium like talk radio because of the relationship between hosts and listeners. This past Saturday while I was doing the family shopping at the Acme in Flourtown, I ran into a great listener in the soup aisle. She knew Roe and me from the times when went for mass to a suburban Catholic church. She recognized me from TV and Roe and I enjoyed talking with her every week after mass.

We said hello and then the listener told me she had was receiving a lot of flak from her circle of friends and listeners about a topic that she felt I talked about too much. These are very conservative people so I didn't think it was President Obama. I didn't think it was stale talk radio topic that I repeated too often.

The topic was Joe Pa. Last week another listener who loves the show saw me at Andy's Diner and showed me her "I Love Joe Pa" shirt. She gave me the same feedback.

I love the feedback that can happen anywhere when I'm out. However, I stand behind my criticism of Joe Pa. I think he should get to keep his wins but he doesn't get his statue back. I think it's true that we need to look at all the great things we did in his life but his failure on Sandusky diminishes that record.

I am not always going to be in lockstep with listeners but I'm always willing to engage and listen.
