Didinger: 'I Don't Know' What Chip Kelly Is Doing

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Nobody understands it. No one can comprehend it. The city can't explain it.

Of course, I'm referring to Chip Kelly's decision to trade Nick Foles (and two draft picks) to the Rams for Sam Bradford (and one lesser draft pick).

If anyone can rationalize this move it's Pro Football Hall Of Fame writer Ray Didinger. Come on Ray, this makes sense right?

"No. No. No, it doesn't," Didinger told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday of the trade. "I'm still sitting back and saying, 'OK, what's next?' Because if this really is it, then it really makes no sense. It really doesn't.

"When we found out there was no flip of first-round picks and this was what we had, then I just found no logical, rational, explanation for what's happened," Didinger continued. "I talked to a lot of people last night when I got back here, people around the league, they're all saying the same thing. They're all saying, 'What is he doing?' This is just the feeling out there from people that I talk to all the time, it's genuine. They're asking me. They're all saying, 'What is he doing?' And my response is, 'I don't know.'"

It is unclear if the Eagles plan on rolling with Bradford, who is set to make $13 million in 2015 (the final year of his rookie contract), as their starter. Didinger admits he likes Bradford.

"Sam Bradford was at one time, a good prospect," Didinger explained. "You're talking to a guy who liked him a lot when he came out of Oklahoma. When he came out in the 2010 draft I liked him a lot. I save all my notes over the years, so I went back and pulled out all my 2010 pre-draft notes and re-read all the things I said about Sam Bradford when he was that guy. And it all came back to me. He really was a very good prospect coming out."

"Everybody loved him," Didinger continued, "his teammates loved him, he was a real productive player in college."

The concern with Bradford, 27, is his health. The former Rams QB missed the entire 2014 season after tearing his left ACL for the second straight season.

"The biggest problem is that Sam just can't stay healthy and when he was played he's been more often bad than good," Didinger explained. "What is he getting now? He's getting a guy that was once a prospect, who is no longer a prospect. He's getting a guy who is an utter puzzle."
