Suicide Prevention Advocate Coaches Parents On Warning Signs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Authorities say 13-year-old Delaware County boy Cayman Naib, who went missing last week, died of an apparent suicide. His death is raising concerns about teenage suicide.

Catherine Siciliano with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Philadelphia says too often students feel bogged down with school work, extra-curricular activities and their personal life.

"The most important thing that students need to take away is that no matter what they're doing they can reach out for help," Siciliano says.

Siciliano says parents need to be vigilant about their child's behavior.

"If parents start to see different moods or behaviors in their children I wouldn't be so quick to just shrug it off as just typical teenage behavior," she says. "It's very important to have those conversations -- hey are you okay, I want to let you know we're here for you."
