Latest Installment In National Geographic's 'Weird But True' Books Due Out Next Month

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The latest installment in National Geographic's Weird But True book series is due out in a few weeks and it's all about food.

Weird But True Food is a fast read of color-filled pages of obscure facts. For example:that a can of jellied cranberry sauce contains about 200 cranberries  and that ancient Egyptians enjoyed ham and eggs for breakfast.

Becky Baines, a senior editor with National Geographic Kids books, says they work hard to verify everything in the Weird But True Books.

"We have to have three verifiable sources through a previous National Geographic publication, or a scientific journal, or first person expert before we'll actually print it in the book."

This series of books is a fun read for kids who might want to try and read harder words like "asparagus" and "marzipan" because of the graphics surrounding them.
