2 Dead, 3 Injured When 2 Cars Collide On New Jersey Roadway

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Two people were killed and three others were injured when two cars collided on a central New Jersey highway.

Authorities say the crash on Route 31 in Hopewell Township occurred early Saturday. They say a southbound car driven by 21-year-old Joel MacArthur, of Oley, Pennsylvania, collided with a vehicle in the northbound lane near Route 518.

The front-seat passenger in MacArthur's car was pronounced dead at the scene, while his rear-seat passenger died a short time later at a hospital.

MacArthur and the two people in the other car — 28-year-old Devon Tomb and 27-year-old Christine Thompson, both of Mount Olive — all suffered undisclosed injuries and were being treated at hospitals. But further details on their conditions were not disclosed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
