What's Cooking on 1060: Suburban Pizza, Italian Culture, and Sustainable Coffee

By Hadas Kuznits

ARDMORE, Pa. (CBS) -- A new pizza restaurant has opened in the Philadelphia suburbs.  "Parlor" is located in the Suburban Square shopping center, in Ardmore.  Owner Rob Wasserman (top photo) says that's where he used to operate the "Saint James."

For this venture, Wasserman says, he put some attention on the pizza crust:

"It's a light crust with a not-so-dense and a crisp flavor, and a nice little chew at the end.  And it gives you a great finish."

Culinary and cultural classes have begun at Gran Caffe L'Aquila, at 1716 Chestnut Street in center city.  Founding partner Riccardo Longo says his mission to immerse guests in Italian culture.

"Every Wednesday and Saturday, a native from Italy will come in and give a full demonstration of different dishes that we make as well as a full cultural immersion," he notes.

"It's a coffee shop, but it's also a full-service restaurant," Levine tells What's Cooking, so we do feature Philly fair-trade roasters, coffee and espresso, and then in addition to that we have a locally sourced, really unique menu.  I'm really passionate about sustainable farming and community involvement and the local concept."
