Americans For Prosperity Rep: 'Chris Christie Is Balancing His Budget On The Backs Of Future Generations'

By Chris Stigall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Daryn Iwicki, the State Director of Americans for Prosperity Foundation New Jersey told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT morning host Chris Stigall that Governor Chris Christie's budget proposal is full of the "same tired rhetoric that we've heard for the past six years."

"I think that we've seen the same lies come out of Governor Christie and these legislators that they've cut spending, they've reduced taxes, and some of it just doesn't hold true. The fact of the matter is that Trenton likes to put an unnecessary burden on counties to cap their spending at 2 percent while Trenton has exceeded that 2 percent spending and again this year the governor's got a budget that goes up 3 percent and we'll really have to get into the nitty-gritty of this budget to---just like last year's budget, you know the governor had tax increases in his proposal."

While Christie has had a balanced budget in his proposal, Iwicki is not sold on how he is doing while slowing down many tax increases.

"When you have a balanced budget proposal, it doesn't stop governments from going out and borrowing more. It's the reason why we've our TTF (Transportation Trust Fund) in trouble here in the state of New Jersey. It's a reason why we've seen school costs for buildings go up because we've borrowed all this money and you've balanced this budget on the backs of borrowing for future generations."

Though he feels that these offenses occur by governors of both Republican and Democrat affiliation, Iwicki doubles down that we must "look closely at the details" of the budgets "and see where the new revenue is coming from" and that New Jersey residents should not be the ones with a smaller budget.

"It's time to reign in spending. Time for Trenton to do more with less, not New Jerseyans doing more with less."
