Storm Leaves Icy Concerns Overnight, For Morning Commute

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With ice taking over the streets and roadways following Sunday's storm, officials are encouraging drivers to be a little more cautious than usual.

AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Jana Tidwell says give yourself plenty of time while traveling:

"You definitely want to increase your following distances. Be careful out there, especially on hills or anything that appears to be wet."

PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says they're doing their best to stay on top of the storm but...

"When you talk about freezing rain, that has the potential to bond instantly on the pavement and obviously trucks cannot be everywhere at one time, especially in the region where we have 11,000 lane miles of state highways."

The ice and snow on the sidewalks can be quite treacherous as well for pedestrians, especially if they aren't salted or shoveled.
