Medical Marijuana In PA: Less If, More How

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Support for legalization of medical marijuana in Pennsylvania is building. The question is what might the bill that the legislature sends that governor look like?

A bill to legalize marijuana for medical purposes got through the Senate in the last two-year session of the legislature, but…

"It got real narrowed," says Republican Mike Folmer, the sponsor. "So the goal here is to expand that."

The bill considered in the last session allowed for medical use of marijuana in various ways, including oils and edible forms, but not smoking. Folmer says he does not expect the expanded bill to allow for smoking marijuana, but he does want to allow for vaporizing. He also wants to expand the list of medical conditions that can be treated, which was limited to ten.

Republican Dave Reed, the majority leader of the House, was non-committal about whether the House might agree to such changes:

"You know, we're going to have to see what they actually pass."

But Reed says he's committed to trying to find a medical marijuana bill that is acceptable to the House.
