Cops: South Jersey Man Assaulted Pregnant Woman During 2-Day Drug Binge

SICKLERVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- A South Jersey man assaulted a pregnant woman during a two-day drug binge, police said Monday.

Richard Caruso 2nd is facing a long list of charges following his arrest on Saturday in Sicklerville, New Jersey.

According to investigators, Gloucester Township Police officers were called to Caruso's home on Hampshire Road for the report of a disturbance.

When officers arrived at the home, they spotted a car being driven by Caruso that was trying to flee the scene, police said. Caruso was detained for investigation purposes.

According to investigators, over the course of two days, Caruso assaulted the pregnant victim and held a gun to her head several times while threatening to kill her as he was reportedly using drugs.

Authorities also say the suspect threatened to kill the victim if she notified police.

The Gloucester Township Police Department said a loaded 9mm handgun with hollow point bullets, which was stolen from another state, a large quantity of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, packing material and cash were found at the suspect's home.

Caruso has been charged with (2) counts possession of a handgun, (2) counts possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess a weapon, possession of hollow point rounds, receiving stolen property, (2) two counts aggravated assault, (2) counts simple assault, criminal restraint, (4) four counts endangering the welfare of a child, witness tampering, (2) counts threaten to kill, distribution of CDS, distribution of CDS in a school zone, possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession CDS with intent to distribute with a firearm.

The 36-year-old Caruso is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility on $350,000 full cash bail.

The name of the female, as well as her possible relationship to the suspect, was not released by police.
