Police: Arrest Made In Connection With Home Invasion Robbery In Delaware

By Steve Beck

MILFORD, Del. (CBS) -- Police in Delaware have arrested a man they say tied up a 91-year-old woman during a home invasion robbery.

The suspect has been identified by police as 26-year-old Dustin Niebert of Ellendale, Delaware.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. Monday at a home in the 6000 block of Melody Lane in Milford.

According to Delaware State Police, Niebert entered the home of a 91-year-old woman, who was sleeping.

Investigators say Niebert tied up the victim and then took cash and jewelry. Niebert, police said, then stole the victim's car. The car was later found abandoned a short distance away.

A family member, who hadn't been able to reach the victim by phone, responded to the home around 3:30 p.m. and located the victim still tied up in her bedroom.

She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say numerous tips were received which assisted in locating Niebert.  Around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, investigators say he was taken into custody by state police within the limits of Milford and transported back to Troop 3 where he was formally charged by troopers with Robbery 1st, Home Invasion, Assault 2nd, two counts of Theft where the victim is over the age of 62, and Unlawful Imprisonment.
