Apartment Building Fire Forces Residents Into Cold In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than a dozen people were forced out into the bitter cold Monday morning after fire ripped through an apartment building in North Philadelphia.

The two-alarm fire broke out shortly before 5 a.m. at a building in the 1700 block of West Erie Avenue in the city's Tioga neighborhood.

Firefighters placed the blaze under control about an hour later.

There were no injuries reported.

SEPTA buses were brought to the scene and were being used to help keep the displaced residents warm.

The American Red Cross was assisting 13 people affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
