Ridley Park Woman Accused Of Smuggling Pills Into Prison Inside Her Bra

RIDLEY PARK, Pa. (CBS) – A Ridley Park woman who smuggled drugs in her bra into a prison on Christmas Day is now facing felony charges.

Thirty-three-year-old Samantha Herko reportedly arrived at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility just after 8 p.m. on Christmas Day to visit John Matthews, who was incarcerated on a drug-related probation violation.

Before the visit, Herko was searched, and police found eight white pills of suspected Tramadol, a narcotic painkiller, inside clear plastic saran wrap inside Herko's bra.
Herko's car was then searched, and officers and a K-9 discovered an empty 10 pill blister packet of Tramadol in the console of the vehicle.

Herko admitted to buying the pills online but denied they were for Matthews; however, prison tapes of outgoing calls made by Matthews contained numerous conversations between Matthews and Herko. In one of those, Matthews told Herko how to put the drugs in saran wrap, and other calls indicated Herko had been successful in smuggling Tramadol pills into the prison on at least two occasions.

Herko is now facing charges of furnishing controlled substance contraband to an inmate, a felony of the second degree, and possession charges in violation of the controlled substance act. Matthews, 38, is facing contraband charges.
