NJ Boater Turns Himself In To Authorities In Atlantic County

By Todd Quinones

EGG HARBOR TWP., N.J., (CBS) -- In a bizarre case of now you see me now you don't, and now you do again, Andrew Biddle turned himself in Thursday.

The Egg Harbor Township man was wanted for allegedly staging a boating accident and disappearing in order to escape criminal charges.

Authorities were unable to track down the 45-year-old after he seemingly vanished in late July.

Tom Murphy was the Good Samaritan who jumped into the water that night in Longport. He was responding to cries for help and he pulled a man who was in the boat with Biddle safely to shore.

Thursday night Eyewitness News talked to Murphy over the phone.

"I really hope they throw the book at him, I hope he gets the max penalty. I'm pretty angry about it. Just to put other people's lives at risk trying to pull off a ridiculous, this absurd stunt and just the fact that he thought he could get away with something like that is beyond belief to me," said Murphy.

Andrew Biddle surrendered to prosecutors in Atlantic County.

Biddle and his business partner were being investigated for fraudulent boat sales.

At this point it's still not exactly clear where Biddle has been these past seven months.
