Study Finds Women Impacted Significantly More Than Men By Stress And Its Effect On The Heart

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It has been suspected for quite some time that stress plays a major role in heart disease for both men and women. But according to a new study released by the American Heart Association, there are differences.

First, women are impacted significantly more than men when it comes to stress and its effect on the heart.

The study looked at over 2,300 women and 1,100 men and found that not only is stress associated with heart attack, but women who suffer a higher rate of stress after heart attack had a more difficult time recovering than men.

In addition to that there were some difference related to stress. Family conflict during the past year was reported by 33% of women versus 20% of men.

A major personal injury or illness was reported by 22.4% of women, versus 16.6% of men.
