Search Underway For Suspect Who Robbed Center City Bank With Replica Grenade

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police and the FBI are searching for a suspect who used what appeared to be a grenade to rob a Center City bank.

Around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, the suspect entered the Susquehanna Bank at 1845 Walnut Street holding what looked like a grenade in his right hand.

The suspect then presented a demand note to the teller indicating he was holding a grenade.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot heading westbound on Walnut Street then southbound through Rittenhouse Square.

The grenade was recovered by police in the 2000 block of Fitzwater Street and was determined to be an inert replica grenade.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 30s or 40s who is about 6'0" tall and has a medium build.

He was wearing a black knit cap, large dark-framed glasses, a dark colored denim overcoat, light colored blue jeans and black gloves.
