Philadelphia Flower Show To Celebrate The Movies This Year

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Flower Show opens next month.

KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg attended a press event Thursday announcing this year's theme.  Here's a hint -- think Hollywood.

The 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show will "Celebrate the Movies" in a big way. And it will start with the grand entrance -- when you walk into the Pennsylvania Convention Center on February 28th, you'll see palm trees and chandeliers dripping with blossoms.

"When you come in we have skytracker lights and we have the red carpet, and we have this huge 29-foot grand marqee inspired by the 20s and 30s," says Sam Lemheney, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's "Chief" of the Flower Show. He says scores of exhibitors from around the world will use millions of flowers to create displays inspired by Disney and Disney Pixar movies like Frozen, Maleficent and Cars.

"These aren't going to be recreations of the movies," he says, "these are all inspiration gardens, so if you're a fan of Finding Nemo, what would your backyard look like."

Actors like Dan Aykroyd and Pam Grier will make appearances. Gene London will also be there, showcasing dozens of gowns from his Hollywood fashion collection. There's also themed nights like Fido Friday and Girls Night Out, as well as a Pop Up Garden inside of the Convention Center. The show runs February 28th through March 8th.
