Jay Lloyd's Getaway: An Inexpensive Run To Toronto
By Jay Lloyd
TORONTO, Ont. (CBS) -- In case you haven't been paying attention to the recent rise of the American greenback, it translates into really big getaway bargains.
The US dollar has been flexing its muscles lately, and that means significant savings for travel to almost anywhere else.
But one of the best bets for a winter odyssey to a world-class city is within an eight-hour drive: Toronto, Canada.
What's there in winter, you ask?
Well, for starters, you can watch winning basketball, and a legendary (although not so hot) hockey crew in a downtown setting, surrounded by world-class restaurants and a historic theater.
And most visitors to Toronto seek out the heights of the CN Tower (top photo), "and seeing Toronto in its full beauty," as one visitor put it.
The stunning space needle, topped by an eyefilling eatery, offers a unique perch for sipping an evening martini.
Now, by spending US dollars north of the border, we automatically score a 20-percent discount on everything from hotels to that uniquely Canadian treat: poutine.
