Police: Pedestrian Killed In I-495 Hit-And-Run In Edgemoor, Del.

EDGEMOOR, Del., (CBS) -- Delaware State Police say a pedestrian is dead after being struck by multiple vehicles on I-495 in Edgemoor.

Police say just before 8 p.m. Thursday, a male was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of I-495 north of Edgemoor Road.

According to investigators, the victim was then struck by an unknown make and model vehicle that had been traveling northbound on I-495. Police say the force of the collision knocked the victim to the ground where he was then struck by multiple vehicles which were also traveling northbound on I-495.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Investigators say all of the striking vehicles did not remain at the scene.

I-495 northbound north of Edgemoor Road was closed for about two and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
