Philadelphia Police Searching For Bank Robber Who Threatened Tellers With Fake Bomb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police and the FBI are searching for a suspect who threatened employees with a "bomb" in order to rob a Center City bank.

Around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the suspect entered the Republic Bank at 1601 Walnut Street and handed the teller a demand note referencing a bomb.

The suspect then produced a box with wires hanging out of it.

After obtaining cash, the man fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male between 5'10"-6'1" tall with a medium build and glasses. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black boots and a knit winter cap.

Officials say the box with wires was not actually a bomb.

Anyone with information on the suspect should call police.
