WEATHER: We Head Right Back Into The Deep Freeze Saturday; Less Wind, Not As Cold Sunday

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's funny how the mid-30's can feel downright comfy after a day locked in the teens, isn't it? Today's weather started with a brief period of light snow, then transitioned into a breezy but pleasant and mostly seasonable afternoon. Don't get too used to it.

Tomorrow we head right back into the deep freeze with morning lows in the teens and an afternoon high of just 20 degrees. With a brisk wind all day, it won't feel much better than the single digits.

Sunday looks like a much better day to get out and about, even if it's just heading to the grocery store or taking down some outdoor holiday decorations! Less wind and not as cold, with temperatures once again reaching the mid-thirties. So the weekend is much like a carbon copy of today and yesterday!

Monday is a day to keep an eye on. Warm air will be advecting into the region, along with a weak system that threatens to bring some rain. However, if the rain gets in early enough on Monday, surface temperatures may still be below freezing, meaning any rain could freeze on contact. We also have to consider the depth of the warm layer in the atmosphere - if it's a shallow warm layer, precip could only partially melt as it falls, meaning sleet is also a potential. By midday Monday, temps look to reach the mid-30's so we'd be talking about straight rain, but if the precipitation lasts long enough, it could end as a brief period of snow or snow showers. Again, not the most potent storm we've ever seen but it could get a bit messy, especially in the morning.
