Arctic Plunge Continues

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's no way to around it: It's COLD.

Wind chills this morning are below zero, with temperatures not much better. The only saving grace is that winds have begun to die down. The sun will be out in full force as well, but the heavy winter attire is still a must. Highs struggling to reach 20 will feel like single digits.

Skies will cloud up Thursday night, and areas well north could see a flurry as an arctic front prepares to swing through. Otherwise the clouds will eventually give way to some sunshine by Friday afternoon. Temperatures will briefly increase on Friday...but that cold wind comes right back. So although highs will be in the 30s, it will feel more like the lower 20s.

The weekend will be dry, but the bitter cold comes in on Saturday in the wake of the aforementioned arctic front. Temperatures will moderate a bit Sunday and into the start of the new week.

As a trade off, next week as a whole will not be nearly as frigid as this week. However, the threat of rain and snow returns on Monday and will stick around through late in the week.
