Police Investigating Alleged Assault In Washington Square

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are looking to identify suspects wanted in connection with an aggravated assault in Washington Square.

Police say on Saturday, December 27 around 2:40 a.m., two men were walking on 12th Street and had just passed Chestnut Street when they were approached by a group of unknown males and females.

According to police, the groups became involved in a verbal altercation but both groups continued on their way.

A few seconds later, police say two men broke from the group and began to walk back toward the two men at which time a physical confrontation began.

During the altercation, police say one of the victims was knocked unconscious for several minutes and suffered bleeding to his brain.  He was taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police say the suspect then left the area and continued walking west on Chestnut Street from 12th Street.
