By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Three new attractions for the family audience dominated the box office rankings on this holiday-season movie weekend.

The third and final installment, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, easily led the way, earning an estimated $56-million on its debut weekend.

A distant second place went to another sequel, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, starring Ben Stiller. It took in $17-million.

And close behind at third was the musical remake of Annie, which debuted with a take of $16-million.

As for last weekend's leader, Exodus: Gods and Kings, it dropped to fourth, earning $8-million, while the holdover, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, placed fifth with just under $8-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly behind those of a year ago.
