Sixers Stockpiling Draft Picks At Amazing Rate

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- People in Philadelphia are becoming quite accustomed to the revolving door that is the 76ers. Over the last two seasons, the Sixers have had a myriad of players don their uniforms as the team has announced signing after signing and trade after trade.

All of those roster moves have allowed the team to amass an impressive amount of draft selections over the next few years and the trend continued this past week.

On Friday night, the Sixers completed a trade that sent Alexey Shved to the Houston Rockets in a three-team trade that landed the Sixers Ronny Turiaf, the rights to Sergei Lishouk and a Houston second round pick in 2015.

The trade gave the Sixers their sixth pick for the 2015 NBA Draft.

Earlier this month, the team acquired a 2020 second round pick from the Nets in a deal that sent Brandon Davies to Brooklyn. The move also gave the Sixers the right to swap second round picks in 2018.

According to RealGM, the Sixers currently have 21 selections over the next six NBA Drafts, including seven first round selections. They currently own their own first round pick and the first round pick of the Miami Heat (Top 10 protected) for this upcoming draft.

It is clear that the philosophy of the franchise is to give themselves as many opportunities to hit on diamonds in the rough as possible. The team will more than likely not be drafting 21 players over the next six seasons that will step in and play right away.

Some of those picks will be traded away. Some of them will be used on international prospects that will stay overseas to cultivate their games.

Sam Hinkie has gained the reputation for being a very creative general manager to say the least. The true mark of his creativity will be seen in what exactly he does with all those picks.
