Police: Burglar Killed During Break-In Of Northeast Philadelphia Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a man is dead after trying to break into the garage of a home in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday along the 6100 block of Van Dyke Street.

Police say a 23-year-old man was caught breaking into the rear garage and trying to steal tools from the residence when he was heard by the homeowner and his nephew.

Authorities say the pair confronted the unidentified suspect and a fight ensued. During the struggle, police say, the alleged burglar sustained a fatal head injury.

Police did not immediately release any further details about the incident. It was unclear if any charges would be filed against the homeowner or his nephew.
