Montco Zoo Scrambles When Reindeer Isn't Quite Ready For Holiday Photos

By John McDevitt

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A less-than-picture-perfect reindeer has the Elmwood Park Zoo making adjustments to its holiday photograph program.

Two of Santa's female reindeer are visiting the Elmwood Park Zoo, in Norristown, from upstate New York.   They've been posing for holiday pictures with zoo visitors.

But yesterday morning, a keeper found that one of the animals, Tre, had only one antler.

Zookeeper Amy Keiter  says reindeer usually drop their antlers every winter -- just not this soon.  She thinks that perhaps Tre got a little too rough playing in her reindeer games.

Keiter says the other reindeer, known as AJ, will have to be the big star with visitors this year in front of the camera.

But, she adds, Tre wont be far away -- for moral support.

"Tre, being the one-antlered one, she is a little bit lopsided, so maybe we will just stick with AJ," Keiter tells KYW Newsradio.   "But Tre is still going to be coming out to keep AJ company because AJ is a little less confident than Tre is.  We are just going to keep them together so they'll be happy together."
