Drexel Student's Invention Keeps Germs Off Your Coffee Lid

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Hooked on coffee could take on a whole new meaning if an invention by a local University student takes hold.

What do you do with the lid on your disposable coffee cup when you have to add cream or sugar or what ever else wanted into a hot beverage -- since it usually takes two hands?

"Most people set it down on the table or they may hold it in their mouth," says Drexel University sophomore Patrick Bowlin.

Bowlin developed Clip N' Go Lids through his entrepreneur class.

"So basically it is a clip that would be manufactured on all ready existing coffee cup lids," he says.

He says the invention will prevent the lid from coming in contact with potential germs lurking on the counter.

Bowlin applied for a patent and is planning to license the lid to manufacturers and distributors.
