3 Pension Funds Suing Christie Over Contributions

TRENTON, NJ (AP) -- New Jersey's three biggest pension funds for public workers have sued Gov. Chris Christie over his decision earlier this year to cut contributions to the funds.

Officials at the Police and Fire Retirement System and two other funds say they filed the lawsuit on Wednesday.

Public workers unions had already sued Christie over the contribution cuts, asserting that he went back on his promise to make up for a shortfall in pension contributions caused by governors of both parties making skipping or skimping on pension contributions.

Christie's spokesman Kevin Roberts says Christie has contributed more to pension funds than any other governor in New Jersey history and that he expects the courts to be allowed to make budget plans "that protect essential social services like our schools and hospitals."
