Drying Out, Then A Coastal Storm

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After picking up around 1" of rain on Saturday, the Delaware Valley will dry out for the second half of the weekend.

A cold front will continue to move offshore Saturday night, allowing for a drier air mass to return with gusty northerly winds.  Expect sunshine to return for Sunday but it will be breezy & chilly, with high temperatures below average in the lower 40s.

Clouds will then begin to return for Monday ahead of the next storm system that will arrive late Monday night and Tuesday.

The cold front that is moving through the region Saturday night will stall offshore early next week.  Energy from a system in the Great Lakes will help energize a low pressure system off the Mid-Atlantic coast on Tuesday.  The storm is expected to track up the Northeast coastline during the day on Tuesday.  As of now, expect mainly rain from this storm system with some snow in interior Northeast and possibly some in the Poconos.  Some heavy rain is possible on Tuesday with the potential for 1-2"+ of rain, especially along the coast.

Strong easterly winds will develop on Monday and combined with a full moon, some coastal tidal flooding is expected along the New Jersey & Delaware Coasts on Monday and Tuesday.  Drier conditions will begin to return on Wednesday ,with still some lingering rain & snow showers possible.  The timing and strength of the storm is still uncertain, which will impact the forecast in the next day or two.
