Fletcher Cox: 'It's About Sacrifice And Playing For The Guy Next To You'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Thursday, Rob Ellis and Jamaal Jackson were joined on WIP Afternoons by Eagles defensive end Fletcher Cox.
Cox has had a break out season for the Eagles and is beginning to catch the eye of national experts as the Eagles have risen to the top of the NFL standings. Cox joined WIP Afternoons to talk about his recent play and the team's upcoming match up with the Seahawks.
The Eagles defensive line has noticeably improved in year two under Defensive Coordinator Billy Davis. The level of versatility displayed, in terms of pass rushing ability and strength against the run, has given the Eagles defense chances to shine.
"We got a bunch of guys that have bought in," Cox explained.

The toughest challenge for Cox was the change in scheme. He was drafted to play in a 4-3 system and at times needed to find his role in the defense last season when the 3-4 was implemented. Cox seems to have figured it out, but wants people to know that it was not easy even though it almost looks simple for him at times.
"I wouldn't say it's simple because simple is not always easy," Cox said. He added that last year he felt like he was peaking in the scheme toward the end of the season and that he brought that mentality into camp at the start of this year.
Cox's impact on the game doesn't always show itself in the form of numbers. In a 3-4 scheme, sometimes the defensive end's responsibility is to blow open a hole for a rushing linebacker to make a play. Cox is well aware of his role and does not concern himself with what the numbers say.
"It's about sacrificing. That's how I look at it," Cox said. "It's about sacrifice and playing for the guy next to you...It's not about me. It's about the Philadelphia Eagles."
Cox also talked about the upcoming match up with Seattle and once again said the objective is "simple, but simple isn't always easy."
"It's going to be about the Philadelphia Eagles defense, 11 guys running to the ball with relentless effort."
