Howard Eskin Confirms Earlier Report: Montgomery Out, Hamels Likely To Be Traded

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- 94WIP's Howard Eskin confirmed his October 2nd report on Wednesday, saying additional sources told him that David Montgomery is out as Phillies President and Cole Hamels will likely be traded.

"Two more sources, two additional to the sources that I had before, have told me David Montgomery has been told officially he will not be back as the President of the Phillies," Eskin told Angelo Cataldi on the 94WIP Morning Show.

"Sources have also told me, people close to John Middleton---again what I reported---said there is no way that he is not gonna get, at least, that three percent more he needs to be the majority owners. So, it's all gonna happen."

Phillies ace Cole Hamels, who has been the subject of multiple trade rumors involving the Red Sox and Dodgers, will almost certainly be traded according to Eskin.

"There is no question in my mind that he [Hamels] is gone," Eskin said on Wednesday. "Another source told me, he would be 'very surprised' if Hamels is not traded. So, I still am told the Boston Red Sox are in play and yes, the Dodgers are in play. Those two teams, he has approved that he would be traded to, are still in play and the source told me he would be 'surprised' if Hamels was back here next year."

With a lot of important decisions to be made, Pat Gillick remains the Phillies acting President.

"Well [Pat] Gillick is currently the President, and you can call him the acting President," Eskin explained. "I don't know how long Pat Gillick wants to do it. I know John Middleton is very comfortable with Pat Gillick."

"He's the current President and John Middleton, I know, has already started to look for people," Eskin continued. "Again, he's not the majority owner yet, but he in the background is starting to look for people and I don't know how much longer Gillick will be there."
