BabyCenter Releases List Of The Most Popular Names Of 2014

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Parents-to-be will want to take a look at this list.

BabyCenter.com has released the top baby names of 2014, and the results are mostly what you'd expect.

Sophia was the most popular name for girls for the fifth year in a row, followed by Emma, Olivia, Ava and Isabella.

The top five names for boys were the same as they were in 2013: Jackson came in number one, followed by Aiden, Liam, Lucas and Noah.

Some names from pop culture also saw a rise in popularity. For example, the Netflix show "Orange is the New Black" resulted in a boost for the names Piper and Dayanara. Elsa and Duke were also up nearly 30 percent, likely as a result of the uber-popular Disney film "Frozen."

"This is the year of the binge-watching baby name," Linda Murray, BabyCenter Global Editor in Chief, in a release. "When you spend 16 hours in one weekend binge-watching your favorite series, you can't help but fall in love with the characters' names. The correlation between trending baby names and trending binge-watch shows is undeniable."

The research is apparently based on the names of more than 400,000 babies born in the U.S. to moms registered on BabyCenter in 2014.
