Storm Leaves Thousands Without Power In New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Thousands of utility customers remain without power following the first major snowstorm of the season in New Jersey.

Jersey Central Power & Light reports nearly 14,600 homes and businesses were still without electricity Thursday afternoon, mostly in northwestern counties.

Other utilities were reporting scattered outages.

The storm brought a mix of precipitation, ranging from heavy wet flakes to sleet before tapering off or turning over to rain Wednesday night. But vast stretches of New Jersey, especially in the south, were relatively unscathed.

Montague, in Sussex County, had the highest snowfall total at 12½ inches.
