Despite Wintry Mix, Drivers In Philadelphia Suburbs Face Few Issues

By Brad Segall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Despite several hours of precipitation in the Philadelphia suburbs Thursday morning and afternoon, drivers experienced few problems as they tried to get around on the day before Thanksgiving.

All afternoon the temperature hovered just enough above the freezing mark to keep the precipitations from icing up on the main roads.

That precipitation included a little of everything -- rain, snow and sleet -- but the suburban communities that saw the most had most of the accumulation on sidewalks, grassy surfaces and parking lots.

As darkness set in, there were some communities that put trucks on the street dropping salt in an effort to keep the roads from freezing up overnight. They wanted to make sure the roads were in good shape for those not lucky enough to get out of town before the storm hit.
