Zagat Releases Annual List Of 50 Best Philly Restaurants, Gives Away Free Food

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's no secret that Philadelphia has an amazing food scene, but what restaurants are the best of the best in the City of Brotherly Love?

Zagat claims to have the answer. The company is out with its 2014 Philadelphia restaurant survey, which selected the top picks for food, décor, service and price.

Somewhat surprisingly, a vegan eatery came in first on the food rankings. Vedge was number one on that list, followed by Vernick in the city's Rittenhouse neighborhood. Morimoto was third, and highly-acclaimed French restaurant Bibou was fourth. Rounding out the top five was Michael Solomonov's Israeli eatery Zahav.

For décor, Stephen Starr's magical Washington Square restaurant, Talula's Garden, earned the top spot, and the swanky Fountain restaurant was first for service.

Zagat makes its picks annually for restaurants in 20 U.S. cities, and to celebrate the release of the year, the company is offering "It's On Zagat," three days of giveaways from three Philadelphia hotspots.

According to Zagat, all hungry Philadelphians have to do for free food is show up at the eatery of the day. Tuesday, the giveaway was roast pork sandwiches from DeNic's in Reading Terminal, and Wednesday, Federal Donuts' South and West Philly locations will be offering free fried chicken. Finally, Corsica drip coffee will go for gratis from La Colombe's Fishtown flagship on Thursday.

Oh, and freebies will be offered "while supplies last," so you might want to get there early.
