Delaware Wraps Up Season Saturday Against Villanova

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens will wrap up their 2014 season on Saturday as they welcome rival Villanova to Newark.

Delaware is 6-5 (4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association) after losing to #1 New Hampshire last weekend, 43-14. The Blue Hens dug themselves a 17-0 hole, but closed to within 17-7 at halftime after a 47-yard touchdown run by Wes Hills.

"In the second half," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio, "they scored, we scored, they scored. Then we had three shots to answer to get it to a one-score game and didn't. Turned the ball over, gave them a couple short fields and it turns in to a bad loss."

Listen to Delaware head coach Dave Brock on with KYW's Matt Leon:

So now the Blue Hens turn their attention to a 9-2 Villanova team that is ranked 6th in the nation in FCS.

"They're two points away from being undefeated," Brock says. "I think they clearly have their best team since they won the national championship in 2009. They're playing lights out football right now. So we're going to have everything we can handle when they come down here on Saturday."

Villanova is led by junior quarterback John Robertson who has won the CAA Offensive Player of the Week award six times this season, including this week. Robertson has 31 touchdown passes this season and just 2 interceptions. He also leads the Wildcats with 861 yards rushing and has added 9 touchdowns on the ground.

"He's certainly an elite player," Brock says. "I tend to believe he's the best player in the country. Certainly the best player in our conference. He makes it so incredibly challenging from a defensive perspective. You have account for him in the run game every snap. He's probably as efficient or as good as every running back in our league."

Robertson has rushed for 861 yards and 9 touchdowns while throwing 31 touchdown passes and just 2 interceptions.

Villanova has won 7 of the last 8 meetings in this rivalry. The only Delaware win during that stretch came in 2011.

Delaware and Villanova will kickoff at noon on Saturday.
