Police: Boy, 15, Charged In Destructive Vandalism At Park In Manayunk

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a suspect wanted in connection with the vandalism of a newly built park in Manayunk has turned himself in.

According to investigators, on Saturday, an anonymous tip was received by the Northwest Detective Division identifying the suspect depicted in a surveillance video of a juvenile vandalizing Venice Island Park.

The suspect, who is 15-years-old, turned himself in on Monday and is charged with criminal mischief.

Surveillance video captured two male juveniles loitering at the park. At one point, one of the suspects went on a destructive vandalism spree.

In the footage, the 15-year-old kicked over decorative lights on a staircase on the side of the Center that opened to the public a little over a month ago.

He knocked over about a half-dozen lights. He then picked at LED lights at the bottom of a handrail, eventually pulling the strip out of the rail, which shut the lights off. He finished by throwing them in the air.

The damage is expected to cost upwards of $20,000-$30,000 to fix.
