Eagles Try To Pick Up The Pieces

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The score doesn't lie in the NFL.

The Eagles' 53-20 blowout loss in Green Bay may indicate just how far the Eagles have to go to get to the elite level in the NFL. The Eagles have only beaten one other team in a playoff position this season, and the Packers thoroughly handled Chip Kelly's squad on both sides of the ball. However, Kelly says one game is not an indication of how much better one team is than another.

"You could look at it that way," said Kelly. "I also think you could look at it as teams with good records have a good record for a reason because they don't get beat. To just analyze it from a statistical standpoint and look at the metrics and assume that their losses are to teams that have really good records so therefore they can't beat teams with really good records is sometimes...and I've always said this...you need to give credit to the other team."

The defeat could mean more than simply another addition to the loss column. A game like Sunday's blowout could also be a difficult emotional hurdle to overcome as the season progresses. However, Kelly is confident his team will be able to move forward as the Eagles get ready to host the Titans on Sunday.

"I think we've got a bunch of real professionals in that locker room," Kelly said. "I think the one thing that they understand is that we stick together. We lost yesterday as a coaching staff, as a special teams team, as an offensive team, and as a defensive team. It's not a finger pointing operation. I think we all contribute to our wins, and we've all contributed to our losses."

While Kelly is confident his team won't look too far behind, there is the other matter of not looking too far ahead. After facing a struggling non-conference opponent this Sunday, the Eagles will have a short turnaround before taking on the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving. Kelly is convinced his team will keep it's focus on the Titans.

"We know exactly what we're going to do on Sunday," said Kelly. "We'll come back in as coaches right after the Tennessee game and get working on the game plan and be here Sunday working. Our players will come back in on Monday and we'll train on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and get ready for the game, so we have the formula."

The first formula that the Eagles will need is the one which puts the Green Bay game in the rear-view mirror. While everybody on the Eagles had a hand in the defeat, Kelly was quick to point out how well the Packers played.

"There's a reason that the Packers are successful," Kelly said. "They've got a hell of a quarterback who's probably playing as well as anybody in the league right now."
