Direct Energy launched the first-ever Philadelphia Small Business Community Heroes award program this year.
This year's winner is Valerie Erwin, executive chef of Geechee Girl Rice Café. She is being honored for her commitment to many volunteer programs including Seeds for Learning, hosting an annual event for farmers where local residents sample the delicacies of fresh grown food, and most recently, her dedication to volunteerism through the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP).
