Arctic Blast On The Way

By Justin Drabick and Kathy Orr

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As Arctic air spills into the Delaware Valley overnight, skies will clear.  Sustained winds, 15-20 miles-an-hour will continue, and morning wind chills be drop into the teens. The clear skies will provide a good view of the annual #LeonidMeteorShower. Best viewing right before sunrise!

Sunshine will return on Tuesday, but highs will only be near freezing -- more than 20 degrees below average. Windy conditions will continue with gusts to 35mph, bringing chill values down in the teens for much of the day. The core of the coldest air will settle in Tuesday night and challenge Wednesday morning's record low of 20 degrees for Philadelphia.

The Arctic air mass will linger on Wednesday, with highs again well below average in the lower 30s with some sunshine.

There will be a moderation in temperatures for the end of the week, but they still remain below average as highs return to the 40s. There are signs of a warmer air mass returning early next week, with high temperatures reaching the 60s.
