Stretching May Solve Tibial Band Tightness

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It is called tibial band tightness and it is very common, especially as we get older.

The tibial band runs down the outside of the leg and it can cause severe pain and tension if you don't stretch it out. It can really be a problem.

Now, stretching the tibial band is a good thing to do and you'll find you'll do very well in releasing the pain as well.

A lot of people with tibial band pain will say they feel that their knee dislocates or they feel an abnormal amount of pressure or pain, but they don't know what's going on. What it really is is the tension in the tibial band that needs to be released.

You might be surprised that something you think is a serious problem can actually be relieved through simple stretching. Again, it's an example of how you don't have to have dramatic procedures to get things done.
