Group Of Runners Race SEPTA Bus In Philadelphia

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Are you faster than a SEPTA bus?

A group of Philadelphia runners put their best foot forward to find out the answer to that question.

It's the classic tale of man versus machine.

"I've waited for a bus in the past and I thought maybe we should try racing the bus to see if we can actually make it there faster than the bus," said Kyle Cassidy.

So on Tuesday night, Kyle Cassidy and about 50 other runners raced the number 21 SEPTA bus along its route from Penn's Landing to 43rd and Walnut.

"The time is something that is very competitive. It can go either way."

Cassidy says to beat the bus they needed to run 3.8 miles in about 30 minutes.

At least 30 of those runners, including Cassidy, beat that time and the bus.

So how do you celebrate beating the machine?

"We're going to go to Pasqually's Pizza, drink some beer and plan the next crazy race."
