Nine-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Montgomery County

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) – Police say a nine-year-old girl died after she was struck by vehicle in Abington, Montgomery County.

Police say around 8:55 p.m. Wednesday night a nine-year-old girl, who was with a caretaker, was hit by a car as she attempted to cross Rockwell Road.

Authorities say the caretaker crossed the road first and the child was following. A preliminary investigation indicates the little girl had stepped out from between two parked cars when a vehicle traveling northbound towards Old Welsh Road hit her.

The driver of the striking vehicle was an 18-year-old woman, who was driving her father's car. She did not immediately stop, but continued driving to the Bottom Dollar food store parking lot on Davisville and Moreland Roads. She then called her mother, who drove to the scene and alerted police that her daughter was involved in the accident.

The nine-year-old was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the little girl's death is being conducted by Abington Police and Montgomery County Detectives.

Police have not identified the victim or the driver at this time.
