Delaware Travels To Albany Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens begin a tough end of the regular season run on Saturday as they visit Albany.

Delaware now sits at 5-4 this season (3-2 in the CAA), and their final three regular season opponents (Albany, New Hampshire and Villanova) are a combined 20-6.

Now the Blue Hens got to 5-4 last week by beating Rhode Island at Delaware Stadium, 28-13. It was a big game for the Delaware defense, as they held the Rams to just one offensive touchdown and 221 yards of total offense.

"They (the defense) played really hard and did a great job in terms of really reducing space and closing space," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "We tackled well. We were able to create some opportunities in terms of being able to pressure them, move the line a little bit and get some tackles for a loss, put them in some negative yardage situations. Then what I thought they really did well is they played really competitive and really good short yardage third and fourth down defense."

This Saturday, the Blue Hens will visit an Albany team that is 6-3 and coming off a 49-24 loss to #2/#3 New Hamsphire. On offense, the Great Danes feature a fine running back in Omar Osbourne. The redshirt senior has rushed for 932 yards and four touchdowns.

"He's a really good player and he's got a great skill set, in my opinion," Brock says. "I think he can beat you with speed and elusiveness and he can also run you over."

On the other side of the football, Brock says the Albany defense is an opportunistic unit.

"They're a little bit of a pressure operation, multiple fronts," Brock says. "They create some conflicts schematically. But the thing that jumps out is they've created 23 turnovers this year. I mean it's a staggering number of turnovers."

Last season Delaware beat the Great Danes in Newark, 33-30.

Saturday's game will kickoff at 3:30 pm in Albany.
