Gov. Corbett: Education Cuts Weren't Made By Me
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Chris Stigall talked to Governor Tom Corbett as he campaigned for re-election on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT.
Corbett expects to see a solid turnout from his supporters in most regions of Pennsylvania.
"All across the Commonwealth, outside, obviously, the city of Philadelphia, you won't see it, [but] I think we'll do okay in the suburban counties, but I think in the rest of the state, you're going to see a pretty good surge."
He admitted that the battle over education funding has been the toughest issue to overcome this election cycle.
"It has been because the newspapers, back in the first year, put the word 'cuts' when it wasn't cuts. It took us four years to fight back on that and yet, you see Tom Wolf's ads, they use headlines from the first year. They don't use the stories that the Philadelphia Inquirer has since written that it wasn't a cut by us; that it actually occurred in the Rendell Administration…the big lie on education would be the number one issue. People are upset at me. They think that I cut education."
Corbett stated he has lived up to what he told voters he would do during his last campaign and claimed his opponent, Tom Wolf, will raise taxes if elected.
"I made promises in 2010, and we've kept the promises. Some people may not agree with it. We've made tough decisions, but that's what an executive is supposed to do, and you're supposed to communicate to the people what you're going to do and how you're going to do it. [Tom Wolf] is afraid to communicate because…he's going to raise people's taxes a considerable amount."
