GOP Incumbent Fitzpatrick Keeps 8th District Seat

By Brad Segall

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- In one of the most closely watched races in Pennsylvania, voters in the 8th Congressional District in Bucks County are sending incumbent Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick back to Washington.

Fitzpatrick was elected to a fourth term and he's already said this will be his final two years in the House. He defeated Democrat Kevin Strouse with a turnout that was larger than many people in the suburban districts expected. He says it's clear that voters split their ticket given a big win by Tom Wolf in the governor's race.

"That they turned out in much larger numbers than were expected I think is an important message to those of us in Congress that we got to work together, we got to get things done," Fitzpatrick said.

There really weren't any surprises in the other congressional races. Democrat Brendan Boyle was elected in the 13th, Republican Pat Meehan was re-elected in the 7th and Republican Ryan Costello will replace the retiring Jim Gerlach in the 6th District.
